Let's choose a system suitable to your needs

The Samsung family of digital phone systems consists of four members:

  • OfficeServ 100 - Maximum 23 lines (with PRI), 64 phones and either 4 ports (SVMi-4E) or 8 ports (SVMi-8E) voice mail, plus optional 4 ports of solid-state auto-attendant. New systems come equipped with IP interface built-in for remote programming and maintenance, and may be expanded to full VoIP capability with a gateway card. May be networked with other OfficeServ voice switches via IP.
  • OfficeServ 500 - Maximum 418 ports; may include up to 9 PRI lines, 250 phones, and 8 ports (SVMi-8E) or 16 ports (SVMi-16E) voice mail. May be equipped with multiple 8-port solid-state auto-attendant cards. Comes with standard IP interface for remote programming and maintenance, and may be expanded to full VoIP capability with the addition of one or more gateway cards. May also be networked with other OfficeServ voice switches via IP (up to 15 systems). May accommodate up to 120 IP phones per single-cabinet system, or 240 IP phones per two-cabinet system.
  • OfficeServ 7200 - Similar in size and capability to OfficeServ 100, in a rack-mounted cabinet with all connections via RJ-45's. Intended to be used in a patch-panel environment side-by-side with standard data network switches. Includes the option of standard 10/100 network interface modules when VoIP phones are used in a mixed voice/data network.
  • OfficeServ 7400 - Similar in size and capability to OfficeServ 500; also rack-mounted with RJ-45 connections for all phone and trunk ports. Includes the option of standard 10/100 network interface modules. Also includes the option of state-of-the-art "gig" network interface modules, which can be used for computers as well as VoIP phones. Some customers have been buying the 7400 and loading it with 1 gig network interface modules to use purely as a data network switch, because they have found it's price/performance to be superior to more well-known switches made by companies like Cisco.

Some common and popular features available on these switches are:

  • VoIP - All of these switches can mix VoIP with industry-standard TDM phones.
  • PRI and DID - All of these switches can interface to at least one PRI with DID or ANI service. The 7400 uses modules with two PRI circuits per module.
  • Analog DID trunks- Only the 500 can connect to analog DID trunks.
  • Station Pairing- All of these switches can do "station pairing", a feature by which two phones can be programmed to be the same extension; for example, a TDM phone at a person's desk at the office and an IP phone in their den at home can be the same extension.
  • Multiple Message keys - All of these systems can provision more than one voice mail message button on a single phone (only limited by the number of buttons). For example, workers who share a phone can each have his/her own message light. A secretary can monitor messages for multiple managers.

Samsung manufactures the "SVMi" family of in-skin voice mail cards specifically for their OfficeServ phone systems. Even though Samsung phone systems may also be connected to voice mails manufactured by others, Samsung SVMi voice processors offer enhanced functionality. For example:

* All systems offer the CALL RECORD feature, allowing users to record conversations in order to listen to them again, transcribe them, or forward copies to other employees later.
* Besides a blinking "Message" light, all phones will tell HOW MANY messages you have in the display.
* While you listen to a message, your phone display can show you the time/date the message was recorded.
* If your phone system has Caller ID, the CID number will be saved and shown in the phone display while the message is played.
* You can use the display on your phone to scan time/date and CID info from all messages before you listen to them, so you can choose to listen to your most important messages first.
* The "Quick Memo" feature allows you to leave a voice message for any person in your company with as few as two button pushes.
* The SVMi-8E, 16E and 20E voice processors can be programmed to forward .WAV file copies of messages to any email address. It is possible for users to listen to ALL of their voice messages thru their email.
* The SVMi-8E, 16E and 20E offer the most flexible and powerful set of programming options in the industry. Coming soon: the ability to forward voice messages between systems over the Internet, including systems by other manufacturers.

In order to decide which of the three Samsung phone systems is right for your application, you must answer four basic questions:

  1. How many lines (of all types) will I need? Some of our customers have had fewer than six lines for many years, and decide that six would be enough. For them, the OfficeServ 100 would be a good choice; it's a very cost-effective system at 6 lines, and is still expandable to 23 lines (with PRI).
  2. How many phones will I need? Some customers do not expect growth; others expect to grow substantially. For example, if a customer needs 32 phones for the initial installation, the OfficeServ 100 would be a good choice. But if they expect to grow to 100 phones , the OfficeServ 500 or 7400 would be better choices.
  3. What special features or options do I need? Decide if any of the attributes you need are available only on certain systems. For example, if you need analog DID or E&M tie lines, the OfficeServ 500 is the only choice regardless of how many phones you need. If you need a single PRI line and 64 or fewer phones, the OfficeServ 100 can handle the job. However, if you need more than one PRI line, the OfficeServ 500 can handle up to 9 of them, and the 7400 can handle up to 12.
  4. Do I need VoIP or system networking? All OfficeServ systems can be "converged" with VoIP via optional circuit cards. These systems can be equipped with Samsung IP feature phones (three models), "soft phones" on PCs, or industry-standard SIP phones. At present, Samsung supports networks of up to 15 IP-enabled systems. This capability means that Samsung's OfficeServ family can accommodate a network total of over 3,750 phones.
